Monthly Contact Lens Solution: A Beginner’s Guide

Contact lenses are a diagnostic tool that requires a prescription even if they are not used to correct vision. Your eye care professional will assess the health of your eyes as well as check for nearsightedness (myopia), poor eyesight, and astigmatism during an eye exam. Your eye care professional will precisely measure your vision while you look at an eye chart and, if needed, determine a medication for corrective lenses.

Regular check-up examinations by your eye specialist are, of course, a crucial part of wearing contact lenses. In addition, it is recommended that you will always follow the instructions of your eye care professional.

Handling Contact Lenses

The cleanliness of your contact lenses is an important aspect of proper contact lens care and the ability to handle your new lenses. When using monthly contact lens solution, make sure your hands are clean and free of any foreign substances:

  • Before touching your lenses, always thoroughly wash your hands with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free towel.
  • Before handling your lenses, avoid using soaps containing cold cream, lotion, or oily cosmetics, as these substances may make contact with the lenses and interfere with effective wearing.
  • Handle your lenses with your fingertips, and avoid coming into contact with your fingernails. It’s a good idea to keep the fingernails short and sleek.

Lens Care Routines

Before handling contact lenses, always wash, rinse, and dry your hands.

  • Use only new, unexpired lens solutions.
  • Use the suggested lens care system and carefully follow the solution labeling instructions. Multiple solutions cannot always be used around each other, and not all solutions are suitable for all lenses. Unless otherwise specified on the solution labeling, do not intersperse or mix lens care systems.
  • Always remove, clean, rinse, enzyme, and disinfect your contact lenses according to the schedule recommended by your eye doctor. The use of an enzyme or any other monthly contact lens solutiondoes not replace disinfection.
